I was trying to explain to my roommate why I can't get these two out of my head, because she exclaimed, "but he's so awful!" And they're both, really, two normal people who were caught up in really abnormal circumstances, with so much left unsaid.
He's trying to survive (shooting 348393483 soliders, shooting her in retaliation), she's trying to survive (running, changing herself completely, burning the cinema), but they're both looking for something honest. And in their dishonesty, they sort of bared a lot more than either of them thought. He saw something in her that brought out the boyish side of him, and she saw something in her that, ultimately, made her feel sorry for him in the end - because she didn't want to shoot him, but the survival instinct broke through again.
Teal deer, I know a lot of people focus on Fredrick's change in personality at the end, but it's really a lot more cut-and-dry than "ZOMG I WANT TEH SEX0RZ". But, yeah, you explored it a little more and I love that. And I love that I can blurt out this stuff in a comment and you get it. ;)
