House on fire, art supplies, and reading.
My neighbors' house caught on fire this afternoon and I'm assuming it was due to their wood-burning stove because the smoke smelled heavily like firewood. The police preferred everyone within the vicinity to wait outside whilst the firemen took care of the situation. On the plus side, their house wasn't horrendously damaged (at least on the outside) and as I came outside to wait (and gawk) on the porch, I found art supplies I had ordered already arrived.

As it turns out, the neighbor set his basement on fire; he was up to what sounds like S&M craft hour: burning leather and wax with a blowtorch.

I'm compiling a list of books I see as essential reading, most pertaining to feminism. At the moment, I'm anticipating my copy of Maurice by E.M. Forster arriving in the mail any day now.
Anyone have any suggestions for what'd you consider to be essential reading? Other than a thirst for knowledge, I can put this to good use:

Why yes, I realize this is a disjointed, mundane post.

Thanks a bunch! I ordered the bookmark. I feel as if I've seen that journal in a store, so I'll hold off until I can remember where.

You're welcome! Dave Gibbons drew up each character as they were portrayed in the film and Ozy, by far, came out looking the best.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how high-quality the journal is, merely because I wasn't expecting such quality from film merchandise.

The fab bio of Dean Martin by Nick Tosches I'm now reading I would recommend. Also a favorite from long back, Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison.

I love celebrity biographies, particularly of any classic Hollywood stars, so I'll keep that one in mind. I'm slightly irked at Dick Cavett having not only his autobiography updated, but not having it re-published as well (but then a great part of me admires him for this as well).

I've never read Toni Morrison, but I've heard much about her work. I shall rectify that as well.

Oh my God. Is that the portrait of movie!Adrian that Dave Gibbons did? Because it looks like his style, but it's movie!Adrian, so...

It certainly is! There's also a full-body drawing of Ozy on the back of the bookmark. Out of all of his Watchmen film art, I think Adrian and Laurie look the best.

Gotta love that he offered his full collaboration and even reinterpreted his own work for the movie.

Absolutely! I completely understand Alan Moore's utter disgust and contempt for Hollywood, but I greatly appreciate Dave Gibbon's enthusiasm for the film. Even if the film were a total failure, it still would have brought the novel more exposure.
