Why yes, it is problematic of me to like this.
If you've not seen this film, then don't read the following quote.

Tarantino's thoughts on a particular scene in Inglourious Basterds:

"Everything Zoller did that ended up fucking her up and putting her in this situation, he did with good intentions. His biggest crime was liking her. I think of that scene as a romantic scene. It's Romeo and Juliet. Those bullets? That's them consummating their relationship. In any other time in the 20th century, they could have been in love. Except for that one time."

I saw the film yesterday, and I've come back to read your quote.

So. Fucking. Tragic. He seems so sweet and naïve until he pushes his way into the projection booth. Almost wish she'd just invited him in. Would have made the shooting that much more shocking.

As to the movie as a whole, it shoulda been longer. But that's no bad thing, I guess. :)

Do let us know if you end up making that comm.

It certainly would have been more shocking if he were invited in, but I also think that Shosanna wouldn't have shot him unless provoked. She was avoiding that and trying to send him back to the theater, but Fredrick wouldn't have that; Shosanna was running out of time and with his near-violent out-burst, she saw it as an opportunity and a solid reason to take him out, only to regret doing so and finally feel something for him. To take out the entire Thrd Reich in a large fire would be the easiest solution as they could be seen as one faceless mass, but to know Fredrick and have to face him made killing him so difficult for her, I think. Interesting to note that the title of the Ennio Morricone track that played during this scene, Un Amico, translates to A Friend.

The script mentions how Shosanna began to feel for Fredrick (other than the projection booth scene), but after the meeting with Goebbels and then running into Landa at the cafe, it was noted that Fredrick was "Trouble with a capital T and she needs to stay the fuck away from him."

There were other scenes filmed that were cut from the film's release, as Tarantino was wanting to get the film premiered at Cannes and was in a hurry to edit it down. The DVD release will most likely have these scenes restored, such as Donny's backstory and buying his baseball bat (Cloris Leachman appeared in this scene as well) and Shosanna meeting and being taken in by the theater's proprietor, Madame Mimiuex (played by Maggie Cheung).

I'd really like to create the community and I'm currently working on a banner after screencapping Fredrick and Shosanna from the Inglourious Basterds website. It'd also be a safe place for everyone to maturely discuss the relationship between Fredrick and Shosanna, as well as to post any kind of fic and other fan creations.

And speaking of fic, a user on imdb proposed an idea of wherein Fredrick learns who Shosanna really is. She is then murdered by Landa, which prompts Fredrick to join the Basterds and carry out her plan.

Okay, enough rambling! I haven't had this much fun with characters since Adrian Veidt entered my life (I now like to pretend that Hugo Stiglitz is his real father).

Man, someone needs to write that.

And Hugo was my fave! I just kept laughing as he sat there in that bar and glared. XD I was sad to see him go.

Also, if you're making all those userpics you've got, I really must find a way to convince you to share them. ;)

I've never written fanfic, though I've had ideas. I should find a pointy e-stick and poke a talented fic writer until they write it. Then I'll e-hug them.

Hugo and Archie are my other favorites, besides Shosanna and Fredrick (they come in two-for-one deals). I died laughing at the bar scene and enjoyed the visual of him shirtless and getting whipped. August Diehl as Hellstrom made me feel all dirty because I love August and find him attractive in everything, including Mouth-To-Mouth wherein he goes down on Ellen Page (not a sight you'd expect to see).

I've already been PM'd by a lovely LJer who came across my profile and fell in love with my Basterds icons, which I find immensely flattering. Everything I make is free for the taking, but do you suggest I also share them other Basterds communities? I can do that, too.
[identity profile] tehprincessj.livejournal.com on August 31st, 2009 10:32 pm (UTC)
talented, eh? Um... I don't think you've read anything I've written (and "talented" might be a stretch), but if you'd like me to give a shot at something drabble-ish, you can promp me here (and just ignore my "Watchmen only" in this instance).

I'll be sure to give Mouth-To-Mouth a watch. Hee, I hope it's better than Hard Candy was.

And I think I'll snag your Funny how I find myself in love with you if you don't mind. Hell, you could even put up a post in your own journal of some of the icons you've made and would be willing to share. A lot of us would appreciate it. Heh, I haven't found any good Basterds comms yet, so let me know if you know of one.

Thank you! <333

I'll gladly poke you with my e-stick with something soon; you'll probably be the first ever fic writer to get something Shosanna/Fredrick online.

Mouth-To-Mouth is a bit odd, as it's about a run-away in Europe who joins a commune that's more Jim Jones-esque than she realized. Then her mother, who is looking for her, ends up joining it too. August is so delighfully strange, like a German Crispin Glover:

I certainly don't mind! I can also post the rest of my Basterds icons and you use whichever ones you wish. So far, the only truly interesting community I found was [livejournal.com profile] basterds; some really interesting interviews have been posted there, which is why I like what I've seen of it.
[identity profile] tehprincessj.livejournal.com on September 1st, 2009 05:13 am (UTC)
And I do love Crispin Glover. <3 Hee, it looks rather strange, but that's usually a good thing.

Sweet. Joining nao.

Crispin and August should play brothers, with Dennis Hopper playing their dad.

And it should be directed by David Lynch.
