I LOVE '70S MEN, GODDAMN.
My favorite male model of all time, Matt Collins; photoshoots and People magazine article.

On the left, his cover for the 1977 book, Looking Good:

A fantastic blog review of both books, lots of pictures of foxy '70s men.

He didn't appear nude or in anywhere at all within this issue of Playgirl, however, Sam Jones of Flash Gordon did, so it all works out:

After Dark magazine and photoshoot:

As Joe Dallesandro:

As Valentino from the Gene Wilder film, The World's Greatest Lover:

From the September 1977 issue of '70s gay porn magazine Blue Boy:

From his film, Tropic of Desire (a.k.a. The Last Resort:

Let it be known that any magazine/book featuring Matt Collins is a collector's item amongst his fanbase, so blessed be Google image search ♥

He's got that lanky look that clicks with me, (see also: young Ben Cross), and for that matter I'd love seeing Sam Jones nude, and young Edward Albert was a good casting choice that same rakish Eurotrash good looks.

Matt is a delightful hybrid of the masculine and feminine and could work any angle; I do believe he was the only truly notable male model until the '90s.

I have the Sam Jones scans (including many other Playgirl and Playboy models and Penthouse) and I can go ahead and post them in a separate post, as he deserves the attention.

Did you ever see or hear of that ridiculous made-for-television '80s film about the male model starring Jon-Erik Hexum and Joan Collins? It was based off of Matt's life (except I believe he's gay, so that whole model-sleeping-with-manager subplot didn't apply). He dropped out of show business altogether after that film, and since he always invested wisely, was most likely able to retire.

Also, this flickr user's galleries are worth a look, as he has lots of scans from '70s magazines and truly has an eye for both male and female beauty:

I've have to track that one down, especially as Jon-Erik Hexum was ridiculously good looking, shame he died so young.

The Making Of A Male Model, was the title. For starters, there's this best-of compilation from youtube:

He was unbelievably beautiful.

Ah thank you! It's so miserably cold here I need some beefcake to cheer me up.

You're welcome! Fall is now in full-swing here and I thrive best from October through winter, which is probably why I'm purposely bogging myself down with work and actively posting more.

Thanks for posting that. This Matt Collins is very nice to look at. Heh... I love 70's men too. :)

I discovered him in that issue of People at work eons ago and totally fell for him; he's the perfect blend of masculine and feminine. I do know that Matt was basically it as far as male models were concerned back then, so I'll have to look through our '70s Vogue and Harper's Bazaar magazines and see if I can spot him.

Great minds think alike ♥

These are awesome, especially the old ads (even though I know that's not the focus here...heh)!

I love the old ads, too! The Dry Look is especially distracting.

I love going through the old magazines at work and bothering my co-workers who are old enough to remember them.

Oh there was a whole television ad campaign featuring "the wet look versus the dry look", I remember it well because one of the guys was Clark Kent and another was Superman! Ahhh, 70s...

I keep thinking of Puma Man and the threat "Or the Gods will give you the wet look!"

I want a time machine.
