Apparently Adrian Veidt was editor for Seventeen magazine in the '80s.

Learn how to dress like David Bowie, won't you?

I photographed this at work today from a 1984 issue of Seventeen magazine; it came from a section on how to "Dress like your favorite rockstar" (the other three were Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, and Michael Jackson).

Oh, Lord. Baby-faced Bowie wannabe...and that HAIR. So, so adorable. (I remember Seventeen magazine from the early 90's...it hadn't changed much!)

Thank you for triggering a flashback...I just went *squee* and *wibble* in equal amounts. :D

She's really quite cute, isn't she? She also looked particularly good as Boy George. There was also an insert from Vidal Sassoon showing girls how they could style pompadours and such with just VS hair products.

You're very welcome! It's a not-so-secret pleasure of mine to go through the old People, Rollingstone, and Seventeen magazines at work and then annoy my co-workers with my discoveries.

I wish vintage seventeens weren't so pricy on ebay. I *love* stuff like this. Does your library ever get rid of them?

Sadly, they have not. Other bound periodicals have been sold off over the years, but never any of the major ones (such as Time, Life, etc.). There's been talk of eventually having everything archived on-line, which would render micro-film and the like obsolete, but nothing's come of that yet, either. I've only realized in the past year how lucky I am to have access to various points of history and pop culture right at my fingertips; I don't think enough of our patrons take advantage of that.

Also, I could create a complete timeline of Jennifer Connelly's youth using all of the Seventeen covers and editorials she modeled for. I think I'll photograph more intriguing articles, starting with a 1981 People magazine profile on Ted Bundy; there was a frame-by-frame set of reaction shots of him laughing over his charges that I've not seen anywhere else (in fact, so many interviews and articles I've found on a variety of subjects hold information and images I've not seen outside of their publications).

I'm wearing suspenders and am going to quiff my fringe for work tomorrow. It's settled!

YOU DAMN WELL BETTER.

I have this bad habit of getting the line Because my love for you would break my heart in two sung all dramatically stuck in my head. It further deomnstrates to me the power of '80s Bowie (my favorite Bowie of them all!).

I did a quiff, but, alas, my suspenders have red in them and only black and white for work-me.

See, 80's Bowie? Is Labrynth Bowie for me. Sarah/Jareth, first fucked-up OTP, y/y?

You put forth your best effort to be Bowie and that's what counts!

I wasn't allowed to watch Labyrinth as child, as my parents worried that it'd be too scary for me. So you know what I watched repeatedly instead? The infinitely darker The Dark Crystal. I eventually watched Labyrinth when I was 12, late night on television. And as a pre-teen entering puberty, I greatly appreciated seeing the androgynous wonder of Bowie.

I'm totally about Sarah/Jareth. Every so often, I have to read tons of fic about those two.

I'll be sending you an e-mail in another couple of hours, as I've been fiddling about with something that will hopefully work out.
