It's a GQ Motherfuckers party game.
Everyone is utterly brilliant in this scene. Spoiler-free, so if you've not seen Inglourious Basterds yet, you can still watch it. And I suggest you do:

Wicki's card reads Brigitte Helm; she was a talented German actress well-known for her role as Maria in Fritz Lang's masterpiece Metropolis.

Keep in mind that Hitler was a fan of Fritz Lang's work and King Kong was one of his other favorites, as well. It must also be noted that Giorgio Moroder made his own tribute to Metropolis by adding color tinting, previously missing scenes, and a score which included the likes of Freddie Mercuruy (the video for Radio GaGa is based off of Metropolis) and Adam Ant, amongst others. Moroder was also the composer of the soundtrack for Cat People, and its theme sung by David Bowie was used to great effect in Inglourious Basterds.

August was just wonderful as Major Hellstrom, wasn't he? I love how he drags out the 't' at the end of 'orient'.

ALL THAT'S MISSING IS MATTHEW GOODE.

I watched IB three times in one week and hope to see it again at least once.

NOT ANY MORE.

HE MAKES SCARY GQ MOTHERFUCKER PARTY GAMES INTO MADDENINGLY SEXY SCARY GQ MOTHERFUCKER PARTY GAMES.

I was slightly obsessed with this film. I mean, QT writes some damn good roles for women. Politics of his attitude towards the subject matter aside, Melanie Laurent was BADASS. I would so very hit that.

And Eli Roth. Just... Eli Roth. Fuuuck.
http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: Eli Roth is a basterd[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on September 24th, 2009 09:29 am (UTC)
I'm terribly in love all of the cast, primarily Mélanie, Diane (not even Matthew could make me change my layout), Daniel, and Fassbender (who needs to gay it up with Matthew). I know that many critics have analyzed Tarantino's meaning behind the film, but he said point-blank, that it's about killing Nazis and cannot understand how his film is cruel to them. He purposely made some of them sympathetic, to point out that German =/= Nazi and made the rest of them 3-dimensional which is practically unheard of in the majority of war films. QT was just tired of WWII and Holocaust films having someone else bravely come in to rescue the Jews and he's knows it's historically inaccurate, but he wanted to change the general concept/structure of war films.

I've been a fan of QT for years, and I LOVE how he writes women; he and James Cameron are the only modern male directors to write powerful women who are also both human and relatable. And IB turned me into an idiot, as I've joined nearly every IB community on LJ, started one of my own, and now write fan fiction (which is okay, as Eli has come out and said that he and QT read the IB fan fiction on LJ).

Matthew's mere presence in that bar would've caused Hellstrom to have a stroke due to the fact that the finest specimen in human history is non-Aryan and British.
[identity profile] greenpixiehair.livejournal.com on September 24th, 2009 09:39 am (UTC)

Oh, I think the problem was more that people feel he didn't take it seriously. And I'm like "ahem... for QT... this is very serious. And also bonkers. But he can't help that."

There are two (or more) sides to all these points, though, and I've had fun arguing with detractors of the film.

They read the fanfiction? How... terrifying.

Matthew's mere presence in that bar would've caused Hellstrom to have a stroke due to the fact that the finest specimen in human history is non-Aryan and British.

Oh dear god I now really, really want to watch his head explode as he realises not only that but also that this fine specimen is spending most nights tied to the bed of a Mr Fassbender. Rawr.

Ahem... sorry about that last bit...

I can see how people would think that, but reading interviews with QT, he had the best of intentions; he even went to Passover at Eli's house as a part of his research and writing process.

More than that, they read the fanfiction porn. QT replied with, "Donny is not a bottom!"

Do not apologize for that last bit, as it is beautiful. Have some Fassy for it:

See? He's considering it.

When I was in the hospital waiting for my surgery, my parents brought by August's GQ, which had a fashion spread featuring Fassbender in a variety of suits. It was quite nice, to say the least.
[identity profile] greenpixiehair.livejournal.com on September 24th, 2009 10:08 am (UTC)

I don't doubt it. I rather love QT, mad bastard that he is.

"Donny is not a bottom!" = best reaction to slash fiction since... ever.

Oooh, he looks nice.

Eli is pretty much QT's life-partner these days, so he'd know his preferences. Seriously though, I love that they're enthusiastic about the fan response to their film and characters, as most actors and directors would probably start crying.

Hellstrom needs some action too:
[identity profile] greenpixiehair.livejournal.com on September 24th, 2009 01:06 pm (UTC)

I... I read that first sentence, about being life partners and knowing each others preferences, and my first thought was... "that could be hot."

Kill me. Do it now.

Preferably while I stand here hypnotised by your gif. Where is that from? And hell yes, Hellstrom needs some loving. That boy is made of unsatisfied sexual tension.

Love In Thoughts (Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken), starring August Diehl, Daniel, andThure Lindhardt (the blonde August is sucking face with). August and Daniel are friends and Daniel is in love with August's sister and August is in love with Thure, who plays the boyfriend of August's sister.
It's an unhappy situation, but so very beautiful to watch and listen to.

QT and Roth as a doddering old couple have old people arguments and owning a bunch of cats amuses me.

Aw, I find Thure's tooth-gap charming ♥

Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken was such a beautiful, heartbreaking film. Daniel was lovely, but I found August to be particularly gorgeous. I know the film was based on fact, thus they wanted to stay true to reality, but I wanted Günther to be happy and Paul to realize that there were women out there who were better than Hilde (especially Elli, I loved her, too!).

I am so happy for his big-time success at the age of 52, as it's not entirely common. He's already flying out to Hollywood to play the villain in The Green Hornet, which I will see solely for him. Waltz is also surprisingly relaxed and level-headed about it all, too. We need more actors like him.
[identity profile] greenpixiehair.livejournal.com on September 24th, 2009 09:34 am (UTC)

He was amazing. Like, it is ridiculously impossible to find the right balance between charming and truly evil. But he did. OH HE DID.

I haven't seen such a charismatic, fleshed-out villain like Landa in years. Heath Ledger's Joker comes close, but even then, I found him more exciting and appealing. Landa, however, disgusts me, yet makes me smile. I think it's due to the fact that Landa has basis in reality and didn't ever come off as over-the-top or campy; most actors substitute camp for charisma which prevents them from being truly terrifying.

I've still only seen the movie once. :|
http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: It makes no sense[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on September 24th, 2009 09:36 am (UTC)
That scene had me entirely on edge. I also took my parents to see it as they had an interest and are both QT fans; my mom gasped in the theater and got upset when Archie ordered the whiskey. She also yelled out, "Kick him with your cast!" when Landa was choking Bridget. Then she cringed and covered her eyes when he got his forehead carved up.

To be fair, I didn't have medical bills to pay off at that point, so I gladly threw my money at Tarantino. Films in general are my one indulgence.
[identity profile] tehprincessj.livejournal.com on September 24th, 2009 09:51 am (UTC)
I'd gladly spend the $ to see it again and again, it's just not a movie my kids can see and I've had trouble finding a sitter. :) It's still in town, so I'm hoping maybe in the next few days I can find a way.

Well, if you don't want to psychologically damage your children...

One of my aunts used to look after my brother and I when were little and she had the brilliant idea of putting on Child's Play. I hid under the coffee table and cried the entire time.

It'll be fun when they're old enough to both watch and appreciate films such as IB so you can then watch them together (or at least that's what happened with my dad and I)

Re: mien liebe Diehl!
Daniel and August were excellent as Fredrick and Hellstrom, and IB was my first time seeing a film with Daniel. After seeing the film 3 times, I ended up buying Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken.

It was a shame that Hellstrom got his crotch obliterated, but I wasn't too pleased with him threatening Archie. It's too bad they all just couldn't hug it out instead (but you don't win many wars doing that, I suppose).
