Some graphics.
So, for my own enjoyment (and perhaps yours, as well) I made a few Shosanna/Fredrick graphics utilizing some of my favorite excerpts from the Inglourious Basterds script.

Aw, really? I haven't been roaming around IB communities enough to read the discussions, but I loved Fredrick. Maybe it's Daniel's charms that have gotten to me :D Besides, a lot of people love Landa so I don't see why they should hate Fredrick. And Quentin's quotes on the two are too precious. Finding out that he loved their death scene so much was seriously awesome.

Besides, a lot of people love Landa so I don't see why they should hate Fredrick.
That's what I keep saying! But apparently, Fredrick's worse than Hitler. I generally stay out of the communities because of the general attitude towards Fredrick; I just post my stuff to them and then run off.

IB was my first film of Daniel's, and he completely won me over. Fredrick was just a sweet boy, damaged by the war like Shosanna. I don't think anyone could have played Fredrick as well as Daniel, as he brought a lot of sensitivity to the role. The Shosanna/Fredrick dynamic wasn't originally intended in the script, but happened naturally after Quentin auditioned them together and realized what he had with the two of them.

Finding out that he loved their death scene so much was seriously awesome.
I love that so, so much. I always love knowing what my favorite directors have to say about their work and I love that Quentin has ended up confirming practically everything I've felt about IB.
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 11:11 am (UTC)
Worse than Hitler? *snort* He couldn't even stand to watch his own exploits on screen and the only possible harm he could have done to Shosanna was pushing the door that hard. If we don't count the shooting, that is. I'm sure he would have never intended to do that if Shosanna didn't.
And you're right, anyone who doesn't like anything to do with the two can just ignore the post. Simple as that.

There has got to be something there, since Quentin had already cast Daniel as Fredrick and the chemistry entirely depended on the actress that was going to be cast as Shosanna. See Melanie and he share a great chemistry, too bad there's not much stuff of them off-set. :[

And when you hear that your favourite director cares about that scene as much as you do yourself, it's a really nice feeling :D Means you have grasped what he wanted the audience to grasp, what his point was.
http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: Your menstruating heart[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 11:41 am (UTC)
Exactly! And then, he had a difficult time shooting her.

Melanie does mention Daniel in interviews when asked about co-stars (and he's really the only one she mentions); his name is adorable in her accent. The two of them had also talked about the possibility of Daniel producing her film. Her big directorial debut begins production later this year, so hopefully will come of that. And aside from their "You're so French!" "You're so German!" fights on set, there was also this little moment from the Cannes press conference:
Melanie Laurent and Daniel Bruhl are having eye-sex
I certainly don't intend to sound like a crackpot, but if anything has/is happening between them, they're being very private, as Daniel keeps such things to himself after his engagement publicly fell apart in 2006.

It really is a nice feeling! Analyzing fiction (particularly film) is a hobby of mine, even when not going over everything so thoroughly, I'm still detail-oriented, so it's important to me to understand the director's intent.
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 12:00 pm (UTC)
Yes! It was heartbreaking for me. The sadness on his face and his trembling hand.

Really? I never heard about that (but again I'm all new to...shipping the two, let's say. I haven't started my usual crazy online searching for everything I can find about them.)
Awww, the gazing at each other. Adorable.
Weird when I love a couple so much, I somehow magically wish the two would get together in real life too. Foolish of me, but I can't deny it.

I'm a bit of a detail freak myself, especially when it comes to films I love. Most of my friends think it's stupid when I pay attention to stuff that much. But I would have never been able to analyze Shosanna/Fredrick as well as you have. It's wonderful.
http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: A song to break your heart to[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 12:37 pm (UTC)
It's no wonder at all why Quentin loves that scene; neither wants to hurt the other, but they're both put into this difficult situation made even worse by the face that neither stood a chance because of the war. It's so impossible to an extent, but one way or another, they were going to be together. And now I'm risking the danger of rambling.

The talk of them collaborating came from an interview from a French publication. It was cute, because she was asked about who was nice to work with and she went on about Daniel. From her mentions of them in Paris together during the auditions and how they "discovered" each other in Capri, I imagine they were discreet as there are no photos of them together at all.
The video footage from Cannes is no longer up, but there was footage of the cast being photographed, with Brad Pitt between Daniel and Melanie. As soon as he stepped away, she turned to Daniel to talk to him, but the cameras cut away to follow Brad.
Foolish of me, but I can't deny it.
Oh, it's not foolish. I've never really felt like this before, but Daniel and Melanie were both so remarkable that I would love it if they ended up together at some point. A lot of other fans feel the same, I noticed, so you're in good company.

I've not met many others who enjoy looking past the surface of things. It's almost amusing when I meet people and we start to talk about film, because I then start going on about scenes and details, and they end up standing there and nodding.

But I would have never been able to analyze Shosanna/Fredrick as well as you have. It's wonderful.
Aw, thank you ♥ I don't think I've ever been as thorough with any film or characters as I have with them.
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 01:02 pm (UTC)
Haha, don't worry, your ramblings on this topic would not bore me at all.

She said that? So sweet :) Because when I saw no picture of them together at all (except just one which happens to be your icon right now), I was really suprised. Disappointed, actually but clearly I've missed stuff :D
Oh, good, I feel at home :)

It's very rare that my friends watch the same movies I do so I only discuss such things over at communities and around livejournal. Even my dad and brother get bored of my ramblings at some point so it's my only choice.

Wonderful! When I'm absolutely enamored with something, I can go on about it for a while.

She did! So far, all I've found in interviews with her are mentions of Daniel and how great it is to work with Quentin.
These are all of the pictures I've found of them together from the premiere in Berlin. I like that he clearly has his hand on her back and how intimately they're standing together:

Most definitely! Because of Shosanna/Fredrick, I met [livejournal.com profile] piecesofalice, who has become one of my very good friends.

Aw, that's a shame, and I know how that can be; hopefully now, though, you've been able to find like-minded people to engage in discussions over such things.
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 02:20 pm (UTC)
I've only seen the ones where she talks about Quentin and how she didn't speak English before the movie.
Thank you for these!
...Whoah, they make such a cute couple! Daniel looks really handsome and well, Melanie is always gorgeous so...(There goes the fangirl inside me. I'll restrain myself while I can).

Oh I love her Friends Only banner :D Hilarious.

True. In fact, it often suprises me when I find people who think very much alike as I do and share so many similar interests.
http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: No we ain't going down[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 03:19 pm (UTC)
This one is my favorite of the interviews she gave, because of the mention of Daniel: http://www.movieline.com/2009/08/inglourious-basterds-melanie-laurent.php

You're welcome! They really are lovely with each other ♥ No need to restrain yourself! They've led me to write RPF, which I've never done before.

She has a fantastic sense of humor and is one of the sweetest people.

I'm always amazed when I find someone with common interests, especially with film. There are certain films/characters/actors/directors that I adore, and I can't compromise on any of them, so it's great when I meet people who feel similarly.
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 04:10 pm (UTC)
I know he said to Quentin, “It’s her.”

Oh my god, adorable. And how she was happy to have scenes with him. Awww.

Well she speaks of him very fondly :) It's so sweet. I love that interview as well. Thank you (it's the possible tenth time I've thanked you but still).

And I just saw the "take off your pants" picture of the two you've posted on your profile. LOL. Hilarious. I've seen a few like those around, and I'll try to find them.

I love that quote so much, as it's so unbelievably lovely.

It's clear how well they got along from watching the extended cut of the restaurant scene. Even before the cameras start rolling, he's looking at her with complete adoration. It's all just so sweet.

You're very welcome! I want to be as helpful I can be, as there are so many quotes and details that really help to flesh out Shosanna/Fredrick.

It was crass of me, but the screencaps warranted it, as their facial expressions are so perfect!
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 06:19 pm (UTC)
Just so you know, all of these facts being pointed out will only make me fangirl more. :P

Oh, I'm aware ♥

Aw, Fred. It's scientifically impossible to not like him, I think.

[Unknown site tag] made it! It's something a few of us have taken to saying. It started because I made the remark that LOL MARCEL is what Tarantino thinks when he's watching IB. It's interesting because after seeing what he had with Daniel and Melanie, about 98% of the Marcel/Shosanna interaction in the script was taken out for the film.
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 08:16 pm (UTC)
Oh, apparently it is. You know, with him being a potential rapist of Shosanna and all *sarcasm* (yes, I came across people's ridiculous comments here and there...when you told me to stay away for my own good :P).

Well I never read the script but I sure don't complain that he took it out of the film. More Marcel time would not amuse me at all.
http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: I'm in a mood for you[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 08:35 pm (UTC)
Well, those people have mutated genetics or something that gives them hearts of coal. I ended up reading lots of ugly comments about Fredrick, and they cannot be reasoned with. They've also insinuated that if one likes him, then they're Nazi fetishists/racist/rape apologists, which is disgusting. Funny, though, as quite a few of them love writing fic wherein Shosanna gets violated by Landa or Hellstrom (or both), but Fredrick's the awful one. The internet is both hilarious and awful.

I read the script for differences in the film. Also, Fredrick came from a family of six older sisters, whom he loved dearly (especially, the oldest, Helga, whom he assured Shosanna would get along with), he's from Munich, and they run a theater, Das Kino Haus. Their mother died and their father abandoned them, so Fredrick had a great respect for women such as Helga and Shosanna. He was lovely in the script, but Daniel made him even lovelier.
Marcel is boring and useless. Also, he whined too much. And Jacky Ido is a terrible actor, as it's not the size of a role that counts, it's the actor playing it.

I noticed the username tag didn't work in my previous response, but [livejournal.com profile] piecesofalice made the Marcel icon. We're jerks like that.
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 08:48 pm (UTC)
Ugh. Just about an hour ago, I was reading some Shosanna/Fredrick fanfiction I could find and I realised the number of the Landa/Shosanna fanfiction is more than the S/F one. Which pisses me off because, gee, I'm sure Shosanna would just love to be with the man that killed her entire family in front of her. So romantic.

I was just reading part six of your fic King For A Day, where he's telling Shosanna about their theatre and Helga and his drunken father and everything.
LOL. Thank god the number of scenes we saw him was...what, four?

I'll happily accept the title of a jerk, then. Count me in the GTFO Marcel club.
http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: I've been waiting for you[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 09:20 pm (UTC)
The Nazi fetishization seriously makes me ill. The Hellstrom stuff is total lolz because he couldn't even speak French and he wanted Bridget. However, all of the Landa/Shosanna fic is poorly written, if that's any comfort.
If you want some excellent S/F fic, [livejournal.com profile] trysts wrote amazing fic: http://community.livejournal.com/un_amico/tag/author:trysts
Her work puts the rest of the fandom to shame, I'd say.

I love working in the details of his life and I'm working on fleshing them out even more. He's a bit delicate to work with, but it keeps me on my toes.

Marcel fans are hilarious to me. I mean, what is there to like? Utivich had about the same amount of screen time or less, and he was fantastic.

It's a wonderful club. All it requires is a fondness for a little Wehrmacht soldier and zero tolerance for bullshit.
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 09:36 pm (UTC)
LOL they might as well write Shosanna/Omar fanfiction, then. They haven't even met but hey, it could be love. :P
Oh, I'll take your word for it. But I must say, your fanfiction is just as great as the rest of the work you've posted about them. Especially in the 6th chapter I just read, the way he whispered in German to her, sweetest thing ever.

Nawwww, Marcel has fans? :P

Don't worry, I have a bullshit detector with me at all times.

I've joked about writing Hellstrom/Marcel, but I'd probably keel over dead at my laptop before that ever happened. I found Donny/Ed Fenech, which is the one that surprises me most. There's also Donny/Fredrick, but that was utilizing rape as punishment and was unsettling to say the least.
Thank you! I'm generally terrible about ego (I don't have enough of it), but it keeps me vigilant about every detail of what I write. [livejournal.com profile] trysts was the first to really delve into S/F, particularly Fredrick, so she really got me going with writing S/F myself. I'm so hung up on Fredrick talking to her in German ♥

He does! Only a few from what I've seen, but they're there. And it's hilarious.

Ha! You're well equipped, as is Fredrick.
Inglourious Basterds - Fredrick Zoller doesn't know what to tell you

[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 14th, 2010 10:11 pm (UTC)
You have a point there. Hellstrom did mention Negros and well, Marcel's just standing there. Perfect match. :P
Lol wtf? Donny and Ed? Didn't see that one coming.
I went over her fanfiction quickly and I'll make sure I re-read it in the morning...it's really wonderfully written (it's past midnight here and my brain's not functioning well so i must reread it for a better grasp).
"Ich liebe dich, Shosanna" made me "awww" so much :')

LOL what can I say. Good for them :P
Nooo, not that scene. I love that expression on his face. Adorable.
http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: A moment out of time[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on May 16th, 2010 09:06 am (UTC)
It'd be so hilariously awful. Marcel would whine, neither could understand the other and Hellstrom has no one to play party games with. That's something else I love about Fredrick: he does not espouse any of the hateful rhetoric Hellstrom, Landa, and the other Nazis do; others who would most assuredly murder Shosanna for her heritage.
I've even found Shosanna/Francesca (though I think the scarce Shosanna/Bridget fic makes more sense).
She has such a way with words and can say so much with so little. Emotionally, she's able to hit all the right chords.

"Ich liebe dich, Shosanna" made me "awww" so much :')
Aw, wonderful! He's so naturally heartbreaking ♥ I'm toiling away on part 7, each part I noticed, is getting longer and more intense as their relationship progresses (which was inevitable, really). I'm amazed that KFAD came this far, but I'm really enjoying writing it.

LOL is all one can say, really. Even Landa's driver has fans.

YES. I love that boy's face ♥
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on May 16th, 2010 11:20 am (UTC)
You know, I just found out the woman who plays Francesca's surname is Dreyfus. Ironic.
And wow. I guess the only person who hasn't been paired up with Shosanna is...monsieur LaPadite? Or has he been already :P
I envy people who write so beautifully, I really do.

Oh please do continue. Oh well, at least you have one guaranteed reader no matter what (the one being myself, ha ha).

Then I declare myself a fan of the drunk man that just had a son. (I don't even know his name :P).

http://suspiriorum.livejournal.com/: Kiss and swallow[identity profile] suspiriorum.livejournal.com on May 30th, 2010 10:04 am (UTC)
Julie Dreyfus, which I believe Quentin did as a bit of a tribute to her (I've also heard rumors that they were involved, which could explain it). Shosanna has been paired with Charlotte LaPadite, but only because she was played by Lea Seydoux. Poor Charlotte has been violated by Landa in fic, too. Basically in the majority of fic written, Shosanna hates Fredrick more than anything, and she'll have sex with anyone but him because he's evil and a terrible human being.

Writing is one of those wonderful talents that isn't always blatantly obvious, either. Like, you can see examples of good design and art everywhere, but writing takes a little something extra, so I really treasure finding a writer who's able to move me in some manner.

I'll keep going with it, most definitely, and I hope to get part 7 up soon. I really do appreciate your feedback and that you're enjoying it. Everyone likes to create for themselves, but it is nice to know others like it, too. Something I like about the My Guests feature on LJ is that I've taken note of a few users who regularly stop by whenever I post fic and graphics. Even if they never comment, I know they're there, so I must be doing something right.

Wilhelm! He was adorable ♥
[identity profile] earthtobells.livejournal.com on June 3rd, 2010 10:47 am (UTC)
Wow. That's sweet. Excuse me while I picture Quentin/Julie in my head.
Charlotte was so gorgeous. My mother (who'd heard about Shosanna from me before she watched the movie) kept asking "Oh no. Oh no. Is this the Jewish girl? They gonna kill her? She's pretty."
LOL. Yes, because that makes so much more sense than Landa/Shosanna, you knowwww.

I might not comment on each chapter written, you know, but I'll make sure to let the author know that I enjoy what they're writing. I don't know if it makes a difference to most people like it does to you, but still.

He was :) He was a bit similar to Fredrick in a way, now that I think of it. The whole situation. He was only thinking of surviving to go home to his kid.
