Help Us Support Planned Parenthood

Join us in standing up for reproductive health and education. Planned Parenthood, the organization that delivers reproductive health care, sex education and information to millions of people worldwide, has come under fire in the U.S. lately, with many politicians on both state and federal level seeking to end funding (and in a few cases succeeding).

During the month of May, you can send a specially designed Planned Parenthood vgift to your friends to help support this cause. (And if you need someone to send it to, [livejournal.com profile] frank is always happy to receive gifts!) There are three variations ($1, $5 and $10) for you to choose from, but they'd all look good on your profile when your friends know that you stand by something so important.

Thank you all for your help in our support for Planned Parenthood. This promotion ends June 1, 2012; LiveJournal is not affiliated with Parent Parenthood. For more information about Planned Parenthood, please visit: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/

RPF: I'll Take the 'A' Train Someday - Mélanie Laurent/Daniel Brühl - NC-17

Title: I'll Take the 'A' Train Someday
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Mélanie Laurent/Daniel Brühl
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 2,076
Summary: Though Fredrick died with his beloved, there were times where Daniel could not help but feel as though he was trapped in that smoke-filled auditorium, the flames rising to meet him as he stood before that screen where he beheld her gorgeous, laughing face. And yet, he knew he wouldn't have it any other way.
Notes: Because I can't not do this. Mélanie, as always, is partly to blame. Title inspired by this song.

Have you never seen a French film before, Daniel? )

Woman Up: Opening up a feminist dialogue - attempt #2

Since my previous attempt didn't entirely crash and burn, I shall continue on with attempt #2.

This one has actually been a subject I've wanted to post about on my own, and this is the perfect opportunity with which to do it.

Night of the Aurochs by Dalton Trumbo; a quote

"Liesel, clinging fiercely to life, studies and obeys him as intently as a lion its trainer. She apprehends and measures every mood that rises and ebbs in the dark wastes of his hungering heart."

Woman Up: Opening up a feminist dialogue - attempt #1

This is the start of something that may just end up being me blabbing on at myself, but even so, I feel it's something that I have to do.

I was (lovingly) prodded into this by my dear [livejournal.com profile] prellung after a series of private discussions we had through messaging one another on tumblr like the mad insomniac women that we are. It took a turn for the interesting when she challenged me with the fact that out of everything we discussed, there was clearly a restraint on my part when it came to giving my own personal views. Rather, those came out in other outlets, be it my writing or subjects I reblog on tumblr, but all in all, I keep an impersonal distance between myself and the content I post.

And you know, I get that. I declare myself, here on my own lj, tumblr, and frequently irl that I am a feminist, because, I am. There are many stances I take and beliefs I hold that I don't find myself discussing enough, especially with other women.

Which has led me to this.

I love a good discussion, and there's a lot I'd love to get into. So why not do it? I decided, every week, to have a discussion post in order to open a feminist dialogue. The topic will change every Saturday and will be focused on feminist/activist issues. It's going to get personal and messy on my part, but I welcome that. This won't be relegated to getting completely scholarly, but to be personal, because, quite frankly, I have a lot of feelings about a lot of things.

So, without further ado:

This week's post is focused on women and body image (something that I and many other women are well-acquainted with).

ANON MEME POST!

Who will lay down their hammer?
Who will put up their sword?

So here's something that could either work out or completely backfire.

Basically, this is a post just for you (yes, you) to comment whatever you'd like: be it about me, your life, that Seinfeld episode you really like, or even your thoughts on the Franco-Prussian War.

I may respond, I may not. Nothing will get screened or deleted unless it's more of that weird Russian spam. Post will remain up until next year, so whatever it may be that you have to say, have at it.

Good show, Mr. Trumbo

It's been quite some time since I've read a novel in one sitting that utterly and totally ruined my emotions.

Night of the Aurochs by Dalton Trumbo; an excerpt

He Knew My Name: A horror soundtrack

My dear [livejournal.com profile] notexotic is working on a project of her own creation, titled Mischief Night. It's a project that's personal, ongoing, and ambitious, which requires certain measures. For this, she has created a dreamwidth account solely dedicated to it.

I created the front and back covers for the soundtrack, which sets the tone and mood of Mischief Night, featuring artists such as world's end girlfriend, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Damon Albarn, Swans, Sons & Daughters, among others.

Mischief Night is a love-letter to the horror genre, and I, for one, am excited to see how it progresses.

Click the link to download, which leads to its dreamwidth journal, where everything for this project will be posted. Have a look, leave a comment, and keep an eye out on Mischief Night.

Mischief Night, 1980. A girl becomes a wolf.

Yes, those are Mélanie Laurent and Daniel Brühl. My tastes are wide and varied!

Fic: Un Amico; Shosanna/Fredrick

Title: Un Amico
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Shosanna/Fredrick, mention of Marcel
Rating: R
Word count: 2,774
Summary: It was almost more than either deserved, to die like this with one another. But it was what they wanted, and if there was anything more that either was willing to fight for, it would be this.
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] sendhimaway, this focuses on Shosanna and Fredrick in the projection booth. Quentin Tarantino, as always, is also to blame for this.

She was fully offering herself to him and eagerly, he accepted. )

Icon/graphics miscellany.

Stuff I've made and never posted/just got around now to sharing. Quite a mixed batch: Tom Waits, Chiaki Kuriyama, Thor, Grace Jones, Ben Whishaw, and Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling.

Not much, but something.

Rain Dogs: The opening

This is something I've been wanting to share, and always intended to: the opening series of scenes to my screenplay, Rain Dogs.

It's been said that the first 5-10 pages of a screenplay must be dynamic enough to capture the reader's attention. Hopefully, I've been able to do just that.

get by with a little help from my friends: A KFAD information/cast post

It must be said that this is a post that's been a long time coming. With all that's happening with my fic, King For A Day, I found it was best to compile an information and character post, not only to help explain some things, but because I honestly couldn't be more excited for the direction and shape it's taking.

Wordy and graphics-heavy, but worth it.
